Analysing a magazine cover has helped me determine conventions in college magazines, and has given me inspiration for my own magazine.

Questionnaire Results
By conducting a questionnaire, I attempted to find out of students wanted a college magazine and if they did, what they wanted included, how they wanted it to look, how much they would pay etc. In the first question, I simply asked whether students wanted a college magazine. 80% of students stated that they indeed wanted a college magazine, and this shows that there is a market for this product.
In my second question, I asked if the audience would actually buy a college magazine. I found out, that only 10% of students would actually buy it, and 45% would possibly buy it. I concluded that because of this, I would arrange advertising space in the magazine as a way of income to support the magazine.
I then asked how much students would pay for a magazine; this was to find out how much I should charge for it, I found out that only 60% of people would be willing to spend money on the magazine. Therefore, I decided that for my first issue, I could possibly charge nothing for it; to gain interest, in hope of encouraging people to buy the next issue.
Next, I asked people how often they thought it should be published, giving the options of weekly, fortnightly, monthly and every term. 90% of students wanted it published either fortnightly or monthly, which eliminates weekly and per term.
One question that I asked, perhaps the most important, was what students would want included in the magazine, the most popular articles that students wanted (in order) were a jobs section, an events guide, college information, a gossip page, course information and a problem page. This information will help determine what I include in the magazine.
I also asked what would encourage students to read the magazine, their answers included bright colours, a good use of photography, lots of pictures, a bright interesting theme, with important news relevant to the area and an eye-catching front page.
One of the last questions that I asked was whether someone would be willing to subscribe to the magazine. 80% of students said that they would not, which made me decide to offer a 50% off discount on subscription in the first issue. This will hopefully encourage students to subscribe to the magazine.
The last question asked, was what they wanted to see on the front cover. Most students said that they would like to see pictures of students on the cover.
Overall, this research had helped me determine what to include on/in my magazine, and has allowed me to relate to my audience by giving them what they want.
